Comedian Billy Connolly: Live
Scottish superstar comedian, Billy Connolly, explains what happened when he went to a US movie theater and discovered they had no ice cream. It sets Connolly off on a skewy rant, giving his British perspective on the eating habits of overweight movie-going Americans.
It is funny to Brits how much choice of food there is in the US, and in Scotland especially, “food” at the movies consists of candy and popcorn, period. So when offered a pizza, Billy Connolly is brilliant when he says he just wanted some icecream and he didn’t have it in mind to order a plate of stew.
Scots have a reputation for being thrifty, so when they visit restaurants it wouldn’t be unusual to see someone like Billy Connolly gorging himself on free bread, and ordering just a bowl of soup for a main course.
And Brits in general who visit restaurants in the US are also amazed at what a really good memory everyone must have to keep up with all the different bread options reeled off by insincere waitresses. Little do they know that once you have found the bread you like, age 2, you don’t really listen to any lists, just order the same crappy bread your whole life, and eat and eat and eat …
Billy Connolly is one of the all-time greats of British comedy and is a prime example of how Scots who become famous also become “British” by default!
